- Season: 1 Episode: 20 : One Tree Hill: What Is And What Should Never Be
- By:
Since Tim seems to enjoy partying all the time at Nathan's apartment, Haley comes up with an idea: a party for Nathan.
Meanwhile, Brooke is still furious at Peyton and Lucas. Peyton makes a last ditch effort at saving the friendship but when Brooke refuses to accept it, Peyton's finally had enough. She's done trying to apologize. She informs Lucas they don't have to avoid each other anymore and the new couple agree to make their first public appearance together: at Nathan's party.
Speaking of Nathan, the newly emancipated Scott brother ishaving financial difficulties so he decides to sell the flashy sports car his father bought him. Of course, nasty Dan wants the money back since the car was a present from him. I guess he never heard the term "Indian giver." Broke Nathan is forced to find a job. He starts working at a food stand in the mall but unfortunately, he and his supervisor don't exactly hit it off. Turns out the geeky guy is a one of Nathan's school peers, and someone he had frequently mocked. Worse, he doesn't even remember taunting the other guy.
Karen tells Lucas about the rejected proposal and Keith's decision to leave Tree Hill. He immediately heads for Keith's house. Lucas tells his Uncle that he will be sorely missed if he decides to leave.
When a hurt Brooke learns she isn't invited to Haley's party, she heads to a bar, drinking all the way. Nicki shows up, asking what brings Brooke out into the big, bad, real world. Brooke's answer is simple: "Anger, alcohol and a fake ID".
The small, intimate party "for close friends only" is turning into a real rager, with more and more people coming by. In the end, even Brooke and Nicki make an appearance: it's time to crash the party and make her former friends pay for deserting her. Meanwhile, at the Scott's, after the umpteenth argument, Dan and Deb end up spending the night together.
Back at the party, "fight club" can get started: Peyton and Nicki start fighting but Lucas manages to divide the two of them. Everyone in the apartment wants Nicki to leave but she has something to say before walking away. It turns out she's the mysterious girl Lucas met in the bar. While Peyton is clearly upset, a drunk Brooke can't help but point out to Lucas, "And you called me easy?"
Finally Nathan - who was stuck at the mall - shows up, just in time to greet the police, who have just now arrived. "Underage drinking. Disturbing the peace." Nathan ends up in jail, and Dan bails him out. He wants Nathan to come back home, but Nathan stands up to him, thanks to Lucas' help.
Peyton and Brooke are in Peyton's bedroom and they seem to be on the path to mending their torn friendship. Well, at least they're not insulting each other, and that's definitely a start. Keith stops by Karen's Cafe with some news. He got a job and will be leaving soon. Meanwhile, Dan informs a startled Deb that she can have the divorce.
It's a new morning in Tree Hill and Lucas is waiting for Peyton outside school. She is clearly disappointed in him. "You know, when you and I first met, I was with Nathan. And he was a pretty bad guy, if you remember. Who knew that you two would switch places?" After that, Peyton walks away, leaving Lucas standing all alone.
